Summer Farm Update

Friends, thanks for all your prayers and support. Busy planting as we wait for the long rains. Some of our teachers have also joined us. Be blessed.

Pig Shed Expansion Project

Our team has been very busy trusting God for the ongoing work at Rafiki despite coronavirus pandemic. A lot of old projects are being rehabilitated. One of our larger projects is the expansion of the pig sheds. We now have eight (8) females and within the next several months, they will start giving birth to little ones. Please consider supporting us with any amount for this pig shed expansion project. Our budget is $2,000. In God we trust.

In early March, Dr. Terry Davis led a small group to Kenya to witness all that is happening at Rafiki Children’s Center. The group consisted of fellow Rotarian Steve Heiser from the Columbus Club and his wife, Karen, a colleague at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Also along were Ted and Bobbie Celeste, pillars of First Community Church, which has been a huge supporter of Rafiki. Rounding out the group was Arnett Howard – a very popular jazz musician in the central Ohio area. Reverend John Nganga was able to join them from Florida.

Rafiki Youth Farm Volunteer Day

Thirteen of the Rafiki youth volunteered to work on the farm for a day on March 2, 2013. A big thanks goes out to Peris Gakunga for motivating and coordinating the group. Here are some photos of the day’s work.

As of our July 2012 update, Rafiki Academy had started and was doing reasonably well with three classes (Preschool, Grades 1 and 2), but enrollment was somewhat anemic at about 35 students. The problem was transportation. We didn’t have a school bus that could pick up the students in town (an hour or so walk) to come to classes at the Academy. Thanks to major donations from the Rotary Club of Columbus and First Community Church, the bus became a reality. Enrollment has exploded!
